Your Child in Gold: Final Dubai weigh-in
Big losers at Dubai Municipality’s Your Child in Gold project will be rewarded with gold.

Nearly two months since the weight-loss campaign kicked off, it’s the final few days before Dubai’s big losers will determine how much gold they will win.
Dubai Municipality has marked September 10 as the date for the final weigh-in for the participants of ‘Your Child in Gold’ campaign.
Participants’ weights will be recorded over five days, informed Fahima Al Amiri, head of the public relations at Dubai Municipality.
She detailed how after the on-site registration, which had kicked-off on July 15, the second phase included free health checks and consultations by specialists.
An interesting line-up with fun exercise plans were also charted out for participants.
According to the stats provided by the civic body, 28,000 residents have signed up for this unique weight-loss contest.
Dubai Municipality kicked-off onsite registration on July 15.
This year, the campaign is aimed at families, with their gold reward doubled for joint weight-loss.
For every kg lost over the 2kg mark, families get 2gms of gold, while individuals get 1gm of gold for every kg lost.
The official explained that child participants were selected only after approval from health experts, and were subjected to special screening.
Parents were also advised on regularly monitoring their child’s weight-loss, and to ensure they didn’t take up any quick-fixes.
They even had to give an undertaking about a healthy weight-loss target, to serve nutritious food and to involve kids in sporting activities.
Last year, the campaign was titled ‘Lose Weight, Win Gold’.
It recorded 9,666 registrations, and won gold for 2,648 participants.
Syrian-born 28-year-old Ahmad Al Shaikh won the title for losing 26kg.
Talking to Emirates24|7, Walid Al Shaibani, head of DM club and coordinator of the campaign, stated ‘Your Child in Gold’ aims to cultivate a healthy lifestyle among the residents.
