Lost your boarding pass? No problem with Etihad’s mobile check-in service

The launches come as global handset and software makers step up efforts to diversify from the saturated smartphone sector to wearable devices.

Etihad Airways has introduced boarding passes on mobile devices in a bid to reduce waiting times and paper wastage.

The new check-in option will reduce the risk of losing the boarding pass and allow the storage of multiple boarding passes on a mobile phone, the Abu Dhabi carrier said.
“Our aim is to simplify and streamline the departure and boarding experience,” said Peter Baumgartner, the chief commercial officer at Etihad. “The elimination of paper boarding passes will be more convenient for our guests and reduce our environmental footprint, which is good for the guest, the business and for the environment.”
The mobile boarding passes will feature the same information as on a paper one such as passenger name, seat number, flight number, gate number and a barcode that will be scanned at the departure gate.
The service will be available for passengers travelling from London Heathrow, Manchester, Doha, Colombo, Dammam, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Sao Paulo, Istanbul, Minsk, Munich, Tokyo Narita and Abu Dhabi, excluding flights to the US.
